    Norma Jean Corbitt

    April 23, 1943 - October 14, 2016

    Norma Jean Corbitt was born in Bryan, TX. Her family lived in New Baden and later moved to Rusk then Tyler, where she graduated from John Tyler High School. Norma later graduated from Houston Baptist University with a Bachelors of Arts, English/Mass Media/Psychology. She was an English Teacher, a Program Analyst, and most recently, a Research Analyst with BCC Research, Wellesly, MA. Norma Jean was a TDCJ approved volunteer since 2004 with Prison Fellowship Ministries. She was a lead facilitator of the New Leaf Project, which she helped create. She made valuable contributions to the I.F.I. Journalism Program and led offender, family, and volunteer events at the Vance and Darrington Units. She was preceded in death by her mother (Mary Helen Burk), her father (O.D. McLeroy), grandparents (Dalton and Clara McLeroy and Henry and Lora Smith), step-mother (Frances), step-fathers (Bob Spier and John Burk) and aunts, uncles, and cousins. Survived by: Children: Courtney Trahan, her children, Edward (Vanessa), Talon, and Darius and grandchildren Anthony, Kaleena, and Nicholas; Helen Kalinowski and her four legged children (Queenie, Winnie, and Sweet Pea); and Brian Corbitt, his children, Jenna and Julie, and his friend Lu Cynthia Winfree and her children, Ashley and Harley. Brothers and sisters: James (Nita) McLeroy, Ronnie McLeroy and his partner Rodney, Mike Burk, LeAnn(Tim) Windmiller, Marsha (Tommy) Martin, Norma Ann Spier and Linda (Bobby) Moore and their children. Paternal Aunt: Reba Fulton and her children, Karen Smitherman and Kevin (Bethany) Fulton and their children. Cousins: D.A. and Darlene Bolton, Carolyn Bolton, Betty Sue Webster, Roger and Rhoda Boney, Ronnie and Thuy-Minh Starkey and Kenny and Xie Starkey and their children. A Memorial will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the Colony Creek Community Church, 7555 Highway 6 South, Missouri City, TX 77459. Memorial contributions may be made to Prison Fellowship Ministries at https://www.prisonfellowship.org/ in Ms. Corbitt’s name and for The New Leaf Program, I.F.I., TX.
