Simeon Jerry Jones

We lost our beloved Jerry Jones on August 22, 2022. He died peacefully at home in the company of loved ones. (Simeon) Jerry Jones was born June 3. 1939 in Richards, Texas. His parents were Simeon Jasper Jones and Virginia Pearson Jones. The family lived in Richards while Jerry was a baby, and then moved to Tomball and eventually to Conroe, where Jerry grew up and his only brother, Wayne, was born. Jerry attended public schools in Conroe and graduated from Conroe High School in 1957. He attended Blinn College and took some classes at Sam Houston State. In his young adult life, Jerry worked briefly for TxDot and Western Auto. He joined the Houston Police Department on November 6, 1961, and was in the Academy class #25. Jerry had a long and enjoyable career with the Houston Police Department and worked in traffic, burglary, theft, and narcotics departments. He was promoted to Captain in 1975. He retired from Houston Police Department in December of 2004. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and one son. Danny Lane. Sister-in-law, Freda Jones, and brothers-in-law; Jesse Carter. Donald Carter and Mike Carter. Also, first cousin, Marshall Ray Allen, who was raised with Jerry and Wayne. Jerry is survived by the love of his life, wife, Linda Jones, of the home. One son, Randy Jones (Pamela) of Troup, Texas. Daughter, Karen Jones (deceased husband Kent Harbaugh) of Montgomery, Texas, and daughter, Nikki Salas (Jeremy) also of Montgomery. His brother, Wayne Jones of Houston, Grandchildren Jason Jones (Katie) of Spring, Texas, and Justin Jones (Holly) of Virginia Beach. VA. And Jeremy Jones (Heather) of Groesbeck, Texas. Katelyn Langley (Devon) of Montgomery, Texas, and Tyler Gowton, also of Montgomery. Ten great-grandchildren. Jerry is also survived by his and Linda’s “surrogate” son, Tommy Lummus, whom they have loved like another son. Several nephews and nieces and many great friends whom he loved dearly. He made many friends while working at the police department, he and Linda were active in a Ford Thunderbird club for several years and made friends from there and he participated in Chili Cook-offs with brother-in-law, Mike Carter and brother, Wayne Jones, and friend, Howard White. Jerry also belonged to the Masonic Lodge, although he had not been active in many years. He loved getting together with friends and family for many years at his ranch in Centerville, Texas, riding four-wheelers and telling lies around the campfire. Jerry and Linda traveled quite a bit with their many friends over the years and made friends with people everywhere they went, including good friends from Australia whom they met on a cruise. They went to Australia to visit, and the Australians came to Texas. Jerry and Linda took them on a tour of the west, including the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, and San Francisco. Jerry was a man deeply loved by his family and friends and enjoyed a full and wonderful life and career.
